Outgoing Mail

In American warfare vernacular, outgoing mail is a term for friendly artillery intended for the enemy. Here at Tigerbait, it's a you tube to get you in the the right mood about the Tiger's whipping their next opponent and just getting out of the office for the weekend. I give you: Last Cup of Sorrow by Faith No More.

Man did I waiver for the selection this week. I looked at some Slipknot, some of the excellent mashups from the Judgement Night soundtrack songs. But nothing summed up the hate for and the pathetic record of Ole Miss as did this song by one of my absolute favorite bands.

"This is getting old and so are you"

That's the opening line and it couldn't get more apt for Ole Miss. LSU is owning Ole Miss lately, close or not, the Tigers have had their number. We are succeeding, winning titles, they are not (it's been 16,396 days since Ole Miss won an SEC title). Ole Miss, as much as I hate them, is becoming Tulane to me, irrelevant and a has been, never to approach national prominence again.

"Take a deeper breath and swallow, your sorrow, tomorrow"

I like the setup for this game. LSU is superior on paper, that's a given. Even so. The Rebels think they are doing something significant right now. They took Orgeron's talent, manage it with Nutt's nutty schemes and are scratching out some wins. They even beat a team that beat the team we almost blew it to last week. I'm sure they are sure they are better. It doesn't matter. LSU beats them tomorrow. They do it with Scott, the old reliable of this offense, they do it with a revived passing game, they do it with defense. The LSU Fighting Tigers do it with the pride and ability they know they have in them. They know Ole Miss doesn't believe it. They damn sure know their own fans don't believe it. It doesn't matter. LSU is better and will make Ole Miss regret thinking they could come down here and win.

"It's your last cup of sorrow
So think of me
And be on your way"

Ole Miss doesn't put much stock in their rivalry with Miss St. They know as most true Tigers know, this is The Game. These kids love to hold themselves up as some genteel example of culture, education and all around decorum while ignoring the fact that it's still Mississippi. And then they love to get superior on us. Again, it's Mississippi. Hell, even when those pathetic bunch of confederate flag waving, fucking nincompoop idiots lose to us, they use it as a source of pride and identification with greatness.

I was in Dallas in 2003 for New Years, the year LSU was busy winning a national title in New Orleans. I, through some small bit of fortune, was brought to the team hotel for Ole Miss as they were playing in the Cotton that same year. In the lobby, they had a huge banner. In big bold letters, it claimed, "SEC West Co Champs". I could not stop laughing when I saw that. They had their best year since the 60s or so, still lost to LSU, claim a meaningless co-championship (when have you EVER seen LSU hang a banner for that?!?!) and that's their boast, their point of pride. I bet they look back with fondness over that as they discuss their centerpieces at their boring and bland tailgates in the Grove.

And that brings me full circle. Ole Miss hasn't been relevant in decades. DECADES. When they are successful, it's still under our heel. They. Are. Pathetic. However, I do enjoy watching those fools think the better of themselves as a lowly place like LSU and Louisiana prove it over and over and over again. It's fine entertainment for me to have them come here, lose and slink back tossing insults and empty rejoinders. Yet, LSU keeps getting the better of them and moves on to greater wins and championships beyond, a land all but the oldest of Rebel fans can't recall in their miserable lives. And still they talk....

"Raise the cup and let's propose a toast
To the thing that hurts you most
Is your last cup of sorrow
What can you say?
Finish it today
It's your last cup of sorrow
So think of me
And get on your way"

  2. stereotypes?

on your flip side. I remember a show on VH1 or MTV about one hit wonders, they had FNM on there. I was seeing red over that. As you said, a highly underrated band.

  5. 31-13

    "Scratching out wins":

UM average margin of victory: 18.7 points
UM average margin of loss: 4.75

LSU average margin of victory: 20.3
    Average margin of loss: 17

UM Strength of Schedule (BCS): 22
LSU Strength of Schedule (BCS): 21

While your margin of victory is greater, being able to score an extra field goal in your wins is hardly room to talk down to us this season. In the past 5 seasons...sure. This one?

I could break these stats down even further but my gut tells me you're not too big on this whole "logic" thing.

  6. heh..ok so I did that post late and divided your point total by 6 instead of 7. Here's how the post SHOULD have read:

    31-13

    "Scratching out wins":

UM average margin of victory: 18.7 points
UM average margin of loss: 4.75

LSU average margin of victory: 17.4
    Average margin of loss: 17

UM Strength of Schedule (BCS): 22
LSU Strength of Schedule (BCS): 21

    ------------------

So let me get this straight. You win by a smaller margin and loss by a MUCH larger margin...and this is your definition of scratching out wins. Nice.

  7. I'm sorry Gerry and Anon, I can't hear you over the sound of our recent national and SEC titles.

  8. Now Josh is going to live in the past. If you want to go there, I think you're wayyyyy outclassed by the Tide.

  9. so you run your mouth and talk a bunch of shit, i ask you a simple question about said shit talking, and you reply by running your mouth and talking shit. very well played. i figured if you couldn't hear me it'd b/c of all the booing coming from tiger stadium...unless, of course, its the 4th quarter. alls quiet in the 4th quarter.

ld he wants to live in the past, but only the post gerry dinardo past. nothing before then counts...except billy cannon.

  11. Jeez Gerry and LD, you might want to learn to read a little satire and deprecation into my posts since, you know, you've only been hanging out here for over a year and know my propensity towards comedy and not taking everything so serious.

To clarify if you still don't get it, the remark about our recent titles was purely a joke. It was self-deprecating. Since I can't brag on anything this year, I have to revert to the past. This is, when someone is serious about it, a poor way to look at things.

Succinctly, learn to take a joke. And a joke at my expense at that.
