Outgoing Mail

In American warfare vernacular, outgoing mail is a term for friendly artillery intended for the enemy. Here at Tigerbait, it's a you tube to get you in the the right mood about the Tiger's whipping their next opponent and just getting out of the office for the weekend. I give you: Walk by Pantera

I'm in an emotional state past most of the Tide fans. See, you have Tigahs who feel one way or another about Saban. Then there's Bama fans who, even while professing various states of bewilderment or befuddlement or even scorn at the Tigah's obsession, spend an inordinant amount of time on the subject. This is funny because there is no fan base in the entire world more obsessed with a former coach than the Tahd.

I don't care. I really don't. I care about LSU playing Alabama tomorrow afternoon and winning. I can deal with losing to Florida and Georgia. I don't hate them that much, I can rationalize those losses. But I cannot stand to lose to the likes of Bama and Ole Miss (or Auburn, as I've covered, but we won so...). Also, strategically, LSU has to beat Bama to even have a shot at Atlanta, which was my highest goal for LSU this year. Thirdly, last verse same as the first, I can't stand Alabama and hate losing to them. Oh, and then there's beating them in Tiger Stadium. This hasn't happened a great deal in my life, and then only in the last few years.

The fun part of this is lost in the details. If LSU can defeat Alabama, that makes 7 in a row. That's pretty pathetic. Hell, 6 in a row is sad, but fun for us of course.

All the bullshit aside, this should make for an interesting game. Both teams love to run and are geared to stop said runnning game. The difference is, as my buddy Gerry stated over at Uncle Rico's, is the relative stability of John Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson at qb versus Lee (who recently got a side job in endorsements for the Pick 6 Lotto up in Chicago). But it wasn't that long ago that I've seen Ms. Wilson just dissolve and be ineffective. So the secret there isn't the qbs. But the defense they face.

LSU's pass defense is in disarray, and that's putting it nicely. Bama is sporting a pretty tough and complex pass defense, a Saban hallmark. I know this well. When at LSU Saban and his defenses loved loved loved facing inexperienced or shaky qbs. Lee is just that kid. The post-game radio show had a great point last week when Gordy said Saban doesn't even need to blitz LSU. They can probably sit back and wait for Lee to make a mistake.

I'm not trying to run Lee down over and over. But facts are facts, and Lee has struggled to put it politely. Our pass defense has struggled to put it politely. Lee could turn around and have the type of game he had in the 2nd half at AU. But I hold no hope right now for our pass defense. I think weakness allows Bama to mount a drive or two where we can't.

But still, my heart burns with a righteous hate. My head may be saying loss, but my heart, my gut says win. And there's no explaining it. So that's why you get Pantera today. Saban, Cody, Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson, Coffee.... you talkin to me? Are you talkin to me?!?!?!?!

Walk on home boy.

  1. Never underestimate one the biggest factors in college football - emotion. To me, this game is LSU's season for a few reasons. The Saban thing (dumb as it is), the fact that Bama is #1, and the combo of the chance to keep Atlanta alive and spoil it for the Tide. I think LSU will play will more passion. If they take an early lead, forget it. Bama is young and hasn't had to deal with that yet....and on the road no less.

  2. I wouldn't be so scared of an early lead. Our defense is vulnerable to big plays (witness UF and especially UGA) and prone to well-called, well-executed drives relying on accurate passing. So the lead issue is moot for me.

Emotion is the only thing I see. And I will say this, these kids love Miles and if they see it as a question of loyalty to their coach or love of who they are, they can roll.
